PROMETIDO … BORN TO FINO!
PRODUCING BABIES BORN TO WIN!

To see him move in a show arena is a thrill, but to stand beside him and hear the four beat music that his feet make—that is the ultimate joy for a Paso Fino lover.  Wherever he goes, crowds follow.  He is easy to spot at shows.  He’s the horse at the center of people pressing ever closer.  He’s the youngest stallion acclaimed International Champion at one of the most prestigious shows in Puerto Rico.  In Ponce, Puerto Rico at 43 months of age, he was declared “Campeon de Caballos,” Grand Champion Stallion.  His performance brought the coliseum crowds to their feet in excitement.

Where did this wonder come from asked dedicated breeders of the fino gait.  Dr. Rosanne Gmuer, owner of Prometido de Selecta responds:  “Prometido is living proof that a good eye is all that is needed to acquire a great producing Paso.  I viewed a video sent from Puerto Rico of a 20 month-old gangly, skinny colt with long neck and the most incredibly moving legs and promptly fell in love.”  Rosanne reminisces further:  “Many people saw him in Puerto Rico but rejected him because he was either too thin, too tall or too well-gaited.  At that time some trainers were saying that in order to be quick in the Fino gait, the horse had to be small and come from a troche modality.  Well, Prometido defied them all.  His gait under saddle remains quick and four-beat.”

At the Grand National Championship Show in 1998 he had the unique distinction of placing first in the 4-Year-Old Fino Colt class as well as in Fino Youth.  Reminded that many professional trainers were shocked that his owner would jeopardize Prometido’s blue ribbon by allowing a youth to ride him, Rosanne responds, “I felt it more important that people see that he is so gentle and natural gaited a stallion that a youngster can ride ride him and win a National Championship.”

Prometido has the most natural, true, four beat lateral gait.  His movement is the product of decades of good breeding aimed at producing smoothness, evenness, and quickness.  From his sire, Capuchino, he inherited quickness in gait and tremendous spirit and brio.  From his mother, Promesa del Juncal, who was an outstanding Fino show mare in Puerto Rico, he received a sensible disposition, size, natural movement, elegance and, with the influence of Bochica and Majestuoso, great style and presence.  Prometido hs always been known as the “Born to Fino” stallion.  That phrase, Born to Fino, has become Prometido’s byline and captures not only his performance but the strength and prominence of his genetic heritage.

Prometido has captured the attention of fine breeders and is acknowledged as the most bred-to stallion.  We see in these offspring the imprint of Prometido’s elegance, sweet disposition, and incomparable quick and even gait.  Many of Prometido’s offspring have the distinction of being awarded National Championships in both conformation and riding classes.  It is in his offspring that Prometido’s true legacy lies.  In 2003, Prometido was named in the “Top Ten Stallion” rankings awarded by the Paso Fino Horse Association on the basis of show performance of his offspring. He continues to produce superior offspring which is validated by receiving recognition as a Top Ten Stallion now for 6 consecutive years!

Says his owner, “We are pleased at the many repeat breedings he gets from owners who tell us that their Prometido babies are the best they have ever had.  We even have one breeder who is awaiting her third Prometido foal!”   Owners of Prometido's foals marvel at their resemblance to him with elegant carriage, perfect gait at birth, and incredibly sweet disposition.  “We definitely can promise to any breeder that Prometido is very prepotent for the fino gene says Rosanne and adds, “A daughter of Prometido won 1st place at Nationals in Pleasure as a 3-year-old and won again the next year as a 4-year-old.  Both classes were very large but her happy attitude and perfect gait at all speeds won her the classes.  Also, she had a largo to die for—and this from a Fino father.”

While his quickness and balance excite the eye, observant Paso trainers and breeders marvel at how willing and happy he appears as he exhibits in the show ring.  He performs for the sheer joy of moving.  Prometido collects himself naturally and performs the fino gait for the sheer fun of it—he truly proclaims that he was “Born to Fino.”

Prometido continues to be the most delightful stallion.  He is curious and loves people and attention.  Horse cookies and carrots are as interesting to him as the new mare that just pulled in.  Rosanne states “Veterinarians tell us that his semen is among the best that they have seen and ships very well over long distances.  We are shipping now to Colombia as well as Puerto Rico.  We also now have available frozen as well as chilled semen.”

Prometido is lovingly cared for by his owner Roseann Gmuer at her farm, Ropa Ranch, in Ocala, Florida.
